The final stage of the U21 Belarus Youth Championship ended on Friday 27, 2023 at the Olympic Tennis Centre in the city of Minsk.
Vera Volkava, the highest rated athlete, competed with Darja Kisel in the finals and overtook her scoring 4:0.
“I took this tournament very seriously and I was so eager to win I didn’t let myself relax not for a single time and was concentrated and uptight at every match. I feel confident about my techniques and skills, nevertheless if I saw a competitor taking over me and me letting loose, I changed my playing style and started playing more in a defensive and less in a risky way”.
“Lizaveta Tsimashkova was a very complicated competitor. You need to play really well and be 100% concentrated to get every single point. She imposed her playing style and you need to work hard to outlast her tenacity. The match score was 3:0 and it may seem it was easy for me to win Lizaveta but it really was not. As I said before I had to fight for every point”.
“I am happy with the result, but I am not going to stop here and will keep on working”.
Lizaveta Tsimashkova competed with Dziyana Likhtarovich for the third place. Both girls train in the Sport School of Olympic Youth Reserve and after seven sets one of them turned out to be more skillful. Congratulations to Lizaveta for winning the bronze!
Heorhi Kunats became the champion in the men singles. In the finals, he competed with Viachalslau Belakon. Heorhi started quite confidently winning 3:0, afterwards his rival Viacheslau pulled himself together and made the score even. The last set was very challenging and the spectaculars hold their breath watching the final set. Heorhi showed off his skillful play and won scoring 11:6.
“After having won three sets in a row, I let myself relax a bit and made some crucial mistakes. Viachaslau saw that and changed his tactics. He started to play a more vigorous and competitive match, so I had to switch myself on again and make everything possible to gain the victory. I am glad I managed to do it and happy to haveclinched the champion’s title”.
Daniil Vitorski took the bronze having outplayed Raman Bestayeu with the score 4:0. Raman, by the way, took the victory from the 2022 U21 champion Mikhail Tsyhanouski in the first match of the main draw.
